Administrative history
Metallurgy was introduced to the curriculum of the Chemistry Department of the College of Science and Arts, Glasgow (an antecedent of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College) in 1884. In 1887, following the formation of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College (an antecedent of the University of Strathclyde), a Department of Metallurgy was established.
In 1987, the Department of Metallurgy merged with the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Mechanical and Offshore Engineering to form the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering.
